Steve Sanders is co-anchor of WGN-TV News at Nine. Sanders is a veteran broadcast journalist who began at WGN-TV in 1982 as a general assignment reporter. For nine years, Sanders anchored the WGN-TV News at Noon, consistently Chicago's top-rated noontime television newscast. 

A graduate of the University of Alabama, Birmingham, Sanders holds a degree in political science with a minor in communications. 

He began his career as a production assistant at WBRC-TV in his hometown of Birmingham, Ala., in 1970. His first on-air job was at radio station WERC where he was honored with numerous journalism awards for writing and reporting. Sanders moved back into television in 1979, as a weekend anchor and reporter for WVTM-TV in Birmingham, Ala. 

Sanders' many accomplishments at WGN-TV include a coveted Emmy Award in 1990 for investigative reporting. He was also winner of the 1991 American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Award, and the Chicago Bar Association's 1991 Herman Kogan Award and an Associated Press Award for investigative reporting. Sanders also picked up an Associated Press Award for Best Continuing Series. 

More recently, Sanders won the Associated Press Award for best newswriting for the obituary on Chicago Tribune columnist Mike Royko. In 1998, he received a first place Associated Press award for writing in the Chicago and St. Louis region.

Sanders has just been elected to the board of governors of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
