Mike Barz

FOX-32 MORNING ANCHOR

Mike Barz to FOX

Mike Barz, who anchored sports on Tribune Co.-owned WGN-Channel 9's morning show for seven years before joining ABC's "Good Morning America" as a feature reporter in 2005, could be headed back to Chicago.

The reliable FTVLive.com reports that Barz is signing on with Fox-owned WFLD-Channel 32 to anchor its morning show alongside Tamron Hall. Barz would replace David Novarro, who could be in line to anchor the new 10 p.m. newscast that's in development at Channel 32.

Channel 9's Mike Barz to 'GMA'

Mike Barz is obtaining an early release from his contract as morning sports anchor at WGN-Channel 9 to join ABC's "Good Morning America" as a full-time feature contributor.

Barz joined the Tribune Co.-owned station in 1998 from WLUK-TV in Green Bay, Wis., where he was a feature reporter and anchor. He's a native of Los Angeles and a graduate of Indiana University.

How's this for a coincidence? At Channel 9, Barz replaced Bill Weir, who hailed from the same station in Green Bay and now anchors weekend editions of "Good Morning America."

BARZ'S BIO FROM WGN-TV:

Born in Los Angeles, Calif., Mike Barz has been on the run ever since. Raised in a military family, "The Great Santini" has special significance for him.

Barz graduated Suma Cum Monday from Indiana University with a degree in bioengineering. Unfortunately, layoffs at NASA and the whole failed "Robo-Cop" thing left Barz falling back on his second choice career, broadcasting.

After brief stints in New York, Los Angeles, Iowa, and Wisconsin, Barz was hired as the WGN-TV Morning sports anchor in October of 1998. Since then, he has learned the difficult task of putting up with the other "freaks," as Barz likes to call them, on the WGN-TV Morning News. "The whole Morning News gang is just plain 'wacky.' I mean, just the other day, Konrad went on the air without a tie. I mean, is that 'wacky' or what?"

When not working as morning sports anchor, Barz can be seen on the Bull's pre-game show, "Bulls Eye," as well as on old reruns of "Baywatch." "That was before the implants."

In his spare time, when he is not sitting around on his butt watching sports, he talks a lot about going to work out. Barz is currently married to his lovely first wife, Marisa, and lives in Chicago. His favorite moment since moving in the Windy City? Playing basketball against Michael Jordan. "It was a pleasure to be dunked on." If he gets the time, he would one day like to rule the world.
