Mark Schanowski

Mark Schanowski came to NBC 5 Chicago in August, 1998 with more than 20 years of sports reporting experience. Schanowski was at WLS-TV from 1990-98, where he anchored and produced weekend sportscasts and was a weekday general assignment sports reporter.

From 1987 to 1990, he produced and anchored the weekend sportscasts at WISN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Prior to that he was the Sports Director at WICD-TV, the NBC affiliate in Champaign, where he produced, edited and was sports anchor of the 6 PM and 10 PM newscasts and reported on all University of Illinois football and basketball games. While there he produced and narrated a University of Illinois commemorative tape highlighting the football team’s Big Ten Championship.

Schanowski held sports anchoring and producing positions in LaCrosse, Wisconsin (WXOW-TV) and Milwaukee, Wisconsin (WVTV-TV) from 1979-82. He began his career in sports journalism as a reporter for the Associated Press in 1978.

Schanowski is a 1979 graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communications/Radio and Television.
