John Garcia
WLS-TV - GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER

 
   

John Garcia joined ABC7 in May 1994 as general assignment reporter. Garcia came to ABC7 from KSAT-TV, the ABC station in San Antonio, Texas, where he co-anchored the morning and noon newscasts since August 1993. 

Previously, he worked at KXAS-TV in Dallas, Texas from 1991-1993 and at KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico from 1988-1991, both as general assignment reporter. While in Dallas, Garcia was one of the first reporters on the scene of the Branch Davidian raid in Waco. In January 1999, Garcia traveled to Mexico City for ABC7 to report on the visit of Pope John Paul II. 
Garcia has received numerous awards for journalistic excellence. He is also active in the community working with the Chicago Association of Hispanic Journalists and a number of other groups. 

Garcia received his Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism in 1986 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Drake awarded him with the "Young Alumni Achievement" award in 1999. Garcia is an avid runner who has completed numerous marathons, including the Chicago Marathon. Garcia resides in the near northside of Chicago.
