Jill Carlson

WFLD - SPORTS ANCHOR

Jill Carlson loves her job as the noon sports anchor and sports reporter at FOX News Chicago. And who can blame her? The avid sports fan gets a chance to cover the teams she loved growing up in the Chicago suburb of Lombard. Carlson is a graduate of Glenbard East High School and went on to receive a degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. It was at U of I that Jill realized her love for sports reporting, getting a chance to cover the Fighting Illini men's basketball team when it went to the final four in 1989.

Carlson began her career at WTMJ (NBC) in Milwaukee, first as a news videotape editor and then as the first female sports reporter in Milwaukee. Then it was on to the Fox affiliate in Evansville, Indiana as a sports reporter and fill-in sports anchor. Her first sports anchor position was in El Paso, Texas. The long road back to Chicago then took Jill to Lexington, Kentucky where she became the first female main sports anchor in the state. In 1996, Jill returned home as a CLTV sports anchor and host of the call-in show, "Sportspage." In 1999 Jill got the call she'd been waiting for: a chance to work at a network owned and operated station in Chicago. It wasn't long before Jill logged another first. She became the first female weekday sports anchor in Chicago when she signed on with "FOX News at Noon."

In her spare time Jill is an avid golfer. She's won numerous long drive competitions, but says she has yet to crack 90 because of her poor putting! Jill also tries to play softball and volleyball, her first loves, as often as possible.
